Elements of High Quality EMBA Programs: We Compare Very Well
We participated in a recent survey of deans and program directors of EMBA programs in the United States. The survey measured what the deans and directors believe are indicators of program quality, and their opinions about the most promising future directions for EMBA programs.
The survey found that the most important elements of program quality and future direction include:
- Faculty experienced in teaching older and high-status students
- Faculty receive high teaching evaluations
- Program length 18-21 months
- Small class size
- Mandatory international study component
- Equal mix of hard and soft skills
- Strong international focus
- Ethics focus
- Emphasis on social responsibility and sustainable development
Our EMBA program compared very well. All of these elements listed are integral to our program.
EMBA Students Will Be Active Users of New Library
On August 30th, Loyola Marymount University celebrated the grand opening of the William H. Hannon Library. The 88,000-square-foot library houses a media lounge, a café, an exhibits area, three reading rooms, a faculty area and an information commons. Group study rooms offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the city of Los Angeles. Kristine Brancolini, the dean of the library said, “Our goal is to be 100% user-focused.”
LMU Executive MBA students are already using the new library both for its extensive business research capabilities and for Study Team meetings. According to Dr. Bill Lindsey, EMBA Program Director “Developing our student’s research skills is an important element of the EMBA program, particularly in the Business Opportunity Assessment and Strategic Opportunity Implementation projects in their second year.”
Enhanced Entrepreneurship Center Will Benefit EMBA Students and Alumni
The Loyola Marymount University College of Business Administration accepted a $5 million endowment for its nationally ranked Center for Entrepreneurship at a recent dedication. In keeping with the donor’s wishes, the center was renamed for its founder, one of LMU’s longest-serving professors, Fred Kiesner.
The Fred Kiesner Center for Entrepreneurship, thanks to the generosity of the Valenta Family, will have the means to compete for the best faculty, develop new courses, and complement its curriculum with speaker events, networking opportunities, hands-on experience and service activities.
LMU Executive MBA students and alumni will benefit from the capabilities of the Kiesner Center. The EMBA program includes a Professional Development Planning component, using executive coaches, which has helped several students choose entrepreneurial careers after graduation. The Executive MBA alumni “MasterMinds” group provides an active support network for entrepreneurially-minded alumni.
